Wines from Haute-Saône

vins

During a long time, Haute-Saône has been a very wine-growing region, more than Jura, with about 20 000 hectares of vineyard. We find this activity in Haute-Saône since the Middle Age. When the archbishops of Besançon came in Gy and Charcenne, the wine production increased a lot. But this time didn't last. In 1853-1854, cholera killed a lot of people. This disaster was followed by the Phylloxera invasion. In few years, vineyards disappeared. Fortunately, in 1895, Guillaume gave a new life to vine thanks to grafts.

Today we find vineyards in Champlitte, Charcenne and Gy. You can taste Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamet, Sauvignon, Auxerrois.
