Honey from Franche-Comté

In Franche-Comté, honey production began in the 18th century. It means that it is an important beekeeping region. Every year, more than 1000 tons of honey are produced in Franche-Comté.

With about 40 professional producers and 4000 amateurs, Franche-Comté is one of the best honey producers. By the way, Mouchard welcomes the biggest honey cooperative in Europe. During flowering season, Franche-Comté attracts producers from other regions.

You can find every flowers' honey, mountain's honey but also honeys more specific as lime tree's, dandelion's, sunflowers'. The most famous in Franche-Comté are fir tree honey and acacia honey. Fir tree is harvested between a height of 700 and 1200m. It is not made of flowers nectar but honeydrew. Full of mineral salts, it has therapeutic qualities.
